INTERACTIVE INTEGRATED DESIGN

RHINO, GRASSHOPPER AND ARDUINO INTRODUCTION

The Seeing Sound Ceiling is a project that explores the themes of 'Sensing Space and Dynamic Architecture.' From 3 individual concepts, a final design was idealised. Utilising tools such as Arduino and grasshopper, the volume of sound and frequency within a space will be regulated and then translated into data. The data is then visually represented through the undulating fabric forms. Which aids the hearing impaired and can influence the mood within a given space.

The ‘room’ model was developed into an acrylic box that has 1:20 scaled people. As for the mechanism of the undulating ceiling a simple slider-crank variant is used with the servo motor connected to the Arduino and grasshopper script.
