MIXED USE BUILDING WITH PENTHOUSE APARTMENTS
1153-1157 BURKE ROAD KEW, 3101
YEAR: 2019 (Working Drawings) and 2021 (Updated Renders)
SOFTWARE: Revit (Working Drawings), Rhino 3D and Enscape (Renders)
Canterbury Terrace is a Mixed-Use Building with penthouse apartments that take advantage of the city side views. Industry based constraints were simulated in this project to understand how to work with the Australian Standards and National Construction Code.
Client Brief included a semi excavated underground parking with the required services, amenities, parking spaces and exits. On the ground floor, public provisions such as a cafe and a mini grocer face Burke Rd. Towards the back of the property are the private businesses; a Barrister's Office and a Drafting Office with a designated space for a shared receptionist. Access to apartments can be via a stairwell or a code access elevator. Upon Entry is a private courtyard that allows more natural light into the apartments and reduces noise transfer. Appartments are 'mirrored' and follow an open floor plan with 4 bedrooms (master with walk-in robe and ensuite), a study, formal dining area, kitchen and 2 lounges. Located a level higher is the Rooftop Garden which provides panoramic views and is accessible to all building users.
The overall design concept follows the theme of nature and aging trees that are reminiscent of the area's history and past. The facade is made from the stone rumble inspired by the historical buildings present. Mixes of woods, stone finishes and greenery provide a more contemporary feel to the space, fitting for the new generation of city dwellers.
